At the heart of Sew Powerful are co-founders Jason Dukes and Cinnamon Miles — a team whose combined experience bridges nonprofit leadership, global ministry, entrepreneurship, and sewing education.
Jason brings a remarkable background in international nonprofit leadership. With years of service at organizations like World Vision and Northwest University, along with advanced education in International Non-Profit Management, he understands how to build sustainable systems that create long-term impact.
Cinnamon brings something equally powerful: creativity with influence.
As the founder of Pixie Faire and Sewing With Cinnamon, and the author of The Idiot’s Guide: Sewing and Sewing For Beginners (now in its 13th printing and sold in major retailers like Costco), she has helped thousands of people confidently begin their sewing journey.
Together, they’ve combined strategy and creativity into something deeply meaningful.
What Is Sew Powerful?
Sew Powerful is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering vulnerable girls in Zambia through academic and economic initiatives.
One of their most recognized programs invites sewists to create handcrafted purses that are sent to girls in Zambia. These purses are filled with essential hygiene supplies and distributed to support girls’ education — removing barriers that often prevent consistent school attendance.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Sew Powerful also operates The 3 Esthers Farm, a farm in Zambia that supports economic stability and long-term sustainability within the community.
This is sewing with ripple effects.
It’s a model where creativity becomes tangible support.
When Sewing Becomes Service
