My Must-Have Sewing Tool: The Flex Light + Accessory Kit

My Must-Have Sewing Tool: The Flex Light + Accessory Kit

Hi There!  I’m Christine of Modern Charm Stitchery.  I am a quilt pattern designer and mom of three young kids living in Upstate New York.

And, I am so excited that my friends at Cutterpillar invited me to share with you my absolute favorite sewing tool, their Flex Light and Accessory Kit.  As a mom, most of my sewing is done at night and I am always searching for better light.  I have all the best lamps, but nothing helps more than having my Flex Light docked onto my machine.  I also love that I can remove the light from its cradle and carry it wherever I need it around the house.

If you are not already familiar, the Flex Light is a small light on the end of a bendable, gooseneck arm.  It comes with three brightness setting from **very** bright to still pretty bright. It also comes with a cradle so that it can be mounted onto a sewing machine, desk, or wherever you will use it most.  And, now, there is also an accessory kit that includes additional cradles, a charging base and a detachable magnifying glass to take your creativity everywhere!

Right now, I am loving my Flex Light for English Paper Piecing.  I find that we are often on the go in the Summer and I don’t have as much time to sit at my machine as I would like. But paper piecing is an easy on-the-go option to help me stay creative.  Since I never know where I will be sewing - in the car, at a hotel, on the couch, in bed - I keep my Flex Light with all my EPP supplies so I am always prepared when the opportunity strikes!

On a recent family trip, the kids were exhausted by 7PM and we had to keep the room fairly dark. I was able to pull out my Flex Light and some of my EPP hexagons and get some stitching done while my husband and I watched a movie.  This is my favorite way to relax at the end of a long vacation day!

My most recent paper piece project was a Library Nook quilt that I made as part of my Scrappy Spring Sew Along.  It is a hybrid between traditional machine piecing and English Paper Piecing.  You can download the pattern for free here and there are also additional tutorials from the sew along available on my YouTube channel.

And if you are brand new to paper piecing or want to learn how, I have two tutorial videos that will teach you everything you need to know from the supplies to creating a hexagon flower.
