Hi, I’m Robbie, the creative mind behind Phoenix Rising Creates. I’m passionate about transforming fabric into art, whether that’s quilting, textile design, or helping others discover their own creative voice.

My studio in Ojo Caliente, New Mexico is a welcoming space where makers can slow down, experiment, and build confidence while creating something meaningful with their hands.

What I love most about fiber art is the storytelling. Every project begins with an idea (often inspired by landscapes, color, and the natural beauty of New Mexico) and evolves into something uniquely personal.

Along with creating my own work, I teach a variety of techniques designed to help makers grow their skills, from precision cutting and piecing to creative design and finishing methods.

I also host immersive retreats at my studio, where students can step away from everyday distractions, focus on learning, and connect with other makers in a supportive, inspiring environment. Tools That Make the Studio Work Better

Reliable tools make all the difference in a creative space, especially when accuracy and lighting matter as much as inspiration. That’s why I love sharing tools that streamline the process while keeping creativity front and center.

Some of my favorite CutterPillar tools in my studio include:

CutterPillar Glow Ultra

I also use the carry case and self-healing mats. This tool is incredible for transferring designs to freezer paper templates. As an art quilter, I often start with landscape photos and turn them into line drawings for appliqué work. I’ll project the image onto freezer paper, then use the Glow Ultra to transfer patterns onto fabric. The large illuminated surface makes complex designs so much easier to manage.

CutterPillar Premium

This was my very first CutterPillar tool, and I’ve had it for nearly 10 years. I’ve used it on countless quilt retreats and in teaching sessions, especially for appliqué and design transfer work. It’s a huge upgrade from taping patterns to a window and tracing standing up (we’ve all been there… and we don’t need to go back).

CutterPillar Swivel

My newest addition. This one is perfect for trimming blocks and working at different angles without constantly repositioning your fabric.

I also love pairing it with my light pads for extra visibility, because as an artist, I can never have enough light (and let’s be honest, neither can my eyes anymore).
