❤️ September Monthly Challenge: Giving Back

This September, we're putting our creativity to work for a cause!

Quilters and makers have always had a special way of showing they care. We take fabric, thread, and a little bit of time and turn them into something that can bring comfort, encouragement, and hope to someone else.

So this month, we're challenging our community to Give Back. 🧵❤️

And we're kicking things off by joining Sew Powerful's Sew-A-Thon Challenge!

🧵 Sew With Us for Sew Powerful

This month, we're coming together to sew Sew Powerful purses for girls in Zambia.

Sew Powerful's purse program brings together sewists from around the world to create beautiful handmade purses that are sent to Zambia. The purses are filled locally with reusable feminine hygiene supplies, soap, and underwear and distributed to schoolgirls through health education programs. The goal is to help girls stay in school throughout the month while also creating meaningful employment for adults in Zambia.

And we'd LOVE for you to join our team!

Whether you make one purse or several, every purse represents time, creativity, and a message that says, "Someone cares about you."

You don't have to be an expert sewist to participate. Sew Powerful provides a free purse pattern and instructional resources to help you get started. You can make as few or as many purses as you'd like.

Grab some fabric from your stash, fire up your sewing machine, and sew along with us!

And don't forget to include an encouragement card with your purse. Sew Powerful explains that these personal notes are an important part of the experience for the girls who receive them.

💕 Giving Back Doesn't Have to Look One Way

While we're excited to be sewing together for Sew Powerful, our September challenge isn't limited to one organization.

We want you to choose a way to give back that is meaningful to you.

Maybe that's donating your time, making something for someone who needs it, donating supplies, or making a financial contribution to a charity you care about.

Here are a few ideas:

🇺🇸 Quilts of Valor
Make or donate toward a Quilt of Valor to honor service members and veterans who have been touched by war.

🧸 Project Linus
Make a handmade blanket for a child who is seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Project Linus has chapters across the country and welcomes handmade blankets from volunteers.

🧵 Your Local Quilt Guild or Community Organization
Many local groups collect quilts, blankets, pillowcases, and other handmade items for people in need.

❤️ A Charity Close to Your Heart
Choose an organization that means something to you and make a donation—big or small.

🤲 Or Simply Give Something Away
You don't have to donate to an official organization to make a difference.

Give a quilt to someone going through a difficult time.
Make a baby blanket for a new parent.
Sew something for a neighbor.
Give a handmade gift to someone who could use a little encouragement.
Pay for someone's coffee.
Donate fabric to someone who wants to learn to sew.

Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness make the biggest impact.
