The Sewing Bees Club: Stitching Love and Comfort for Children in Need

In a world where a little kindness can go a long way, The Sewing Bees Club is making a profound impact by using their sewing and quilting skills to bring comfort to children in need. This incredible nonprofit, based in Ocala, FL, has been serving their community for over 34 years, officially becoming a 501(c)(3) in February 2023. Their mission is simple yet powerful: to provide handmade quilts, stuffed animals, clothing, and other essential items to disadvantaged children throughout Marion County.

A Community of Creators with a Heart for Giving
The Sewing Bees Club is a vibrant community of 50 dedicated volunteers, ranging in age from 55 to late 80s, including a remarkable former member now in assisted living at 100 years old—who still makes quilts! Whether members are sewing at home, in a group setting, or helping in other ways, everyone plays a part in this meaningful work.
What They Make and Who They Help
Their creations go beyond quilts. They craft baby blankets, burp cloths, young children’s clothing, drawstring bags, and more, ensuring that children in foster care, homeless shelters, domestic violence situations, and poverty receive items filled with love. In 2024 alone, the club donated a record-breaking 1,003 quilts to children in need.
Heartfelt Impact and Community Recognition
The club has touched countless lives, with local agencies and schools expressing gratitude through letters, handmade gifts, and even class projects. One touching message from a teacher at Reddick-Collier Elementary sums up their impact: “You did more than make them happy—you taught them that acts of kindness from strangers can change lives.”
They have been featured in local newspapers and newsletters, spreading awareness about the 1,500 homeless children in Marion County and the urgent need for community support.
