Half-Square Triangles

March is all about mastering Half-Square Triangles. HSTs are one of the most versatile building blocks in quilting, and improving your precision here can elevate every project you create.

 

This month focuses on accuracy, trimming techniques, and building consistency so your points stay sharp and your blocks line up beautifully. Whether you are making a single block or experimenting with layouts, HSTs are a powerful skill to strengthen.

Classic Half-Square Triangle

A perfect place to start. The basic HST block helps you focus on accuracy, trimming, and clean alignment while building confidence with one of quilting’s most versatile units.

HST Pinwheel Variation

Combine four Half-Square Triangles to create a pinwheel design. This variation helps you refine seam direction, nesting, and center alignment while keeping the block visually dynamic.

Chevron or Diagonal HST Layout

Arrange multiple HST units into a chevron or diagonal pattern to explore movement and symmetry. This option challenges you to maintain consistent trimming and alignment across repeated units.
